A few weeks ago my best friends and I took a mini girls trip to New England. Since hearing about the Beyoncé Mrs. Carter Tour, I had been super excited to see the iconic Beyoncé in concert for what would be my sixth time. I emailed my girls, worked out the logistics and the official countdown began!
Instead of seeing Beyoncé at the Verizon Center, we decided that we would kill two birds with one stone and see her in Connecticut. As I have the goal to visit all 50 states by the age of 50, I worked out an itinerary that would allow us to visit the gorgeous states of Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Thursday morning, my two amigos and I boarded a plane to Boston. We met up with my best friend since the fourth grade that was flying in from Philly.
We then headed to the Paramount Restaurant in South Boston where we enjoyed a quick and delicious breakfast.
After hitting the local 7-eleven and Starbucks (what is a road trip without those essentials) we were on our way! We made it safely to Newport, Rhode Island where we would be staying for the evening. Our hotel, 41 North was in the center of many local restaurants and cute shops.
As the hotel was putting final touches on our loft, we strolled through the streets before coming across O’Brien’s Pub. O’Brien’s treated us to some of the best cocktails we had ever had!
As self-proclaimed tequila connoisseurs, Veronica and I really enjoyed the signature margaritas made with Milagros tequila.
Our initial itinerary included an afternoon sailboat ride. Unfortunately, the summer showers prevented us from setting sail. Alternatively, we had a light lunch at a restaurant near the pier where we dined on lobster bisque and New England clam chowder. We couldn’t stop talking about the amazing cocktails at O’Brien’s Pub, so we decided to head back to the restaurant to pass time. We changed for dinner and ended our night at the The Grill where Veronica and I were defeated by the lobster we shared.
Friday morning we woke up early and grabbed coffee at a quaint coffee shop near the hotel.
After enjoying coffee and a delicious breakfast, we headed over to the pier to board the Madeleine sail boat. It was perfect sailing weather and we had wonderful tour guides. I had never been sailing before and found the experience to be so relaxing.
After learning about the history of Newport aboard the Madeleine, we debarked and hit the road for Connecticut! We arrived at our hotel early and were greeted by the super friendly and helpful hotel staff. After checking in it was time for lunch. As Uncasville, CT is a small town, there weren’t many restaurant options nearby. The girls and I are fans of Chili’s so we had no problem making our way across the street for a few appetizers. (We highly recommend Chili’s Patron Margarita and the Triple Dipper!)
The girls and I changed into our concert attire and hopped the shuttle that was headed to the Mohegan Sun.
We had an early dinner reservation at SolToro Tequila Grill. After filling our bellies we were beyond excited to head on over to the concert line.
We were soon seated and serenaded by Luke James who warmed up the crowd with a sampling of his songs. After Luke’s set, it was time for the one, the only, Beyoncé!
The Queen B kept us on our feet as she performed her classics and newer hits. I enjoyed every second of the concert and enjoyed the experience with my friends.
The next morning we headed to the Hartford airport and said our goodbyes to Fa’tima. After a quick flight from Connecticut to DC, we were soon reunited with our families.
A quick girl’s getaway is always a blessing and a wonderful excuse to refuel and to reset. I am very much looking forward to our next girls’ getaway!
Love you girls!
