Happy Tuesday! I can’t believe that January has flown by so fast! Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring a few of our favorite professionals in the weddings and events industry. We love the work that we do here at Geomyra Lewis Weddings and Events, and make a point to work with vendors that share the same passion as us. First up are our friends at Jordan K. Winn & Co. Over the past few years, my brides and I have had the pleasure of working with the fabulous team of hair stylists and makeup artists. Grab a cup a coffee on this dreary day and get to know the ladies of Jordan K. Winn & Co.
Geomyra: Jordan, tell us a little bit about Jordan K. Winn & Co.
Jordan: Based out of the D.C. metropolitan area, Jordan K. Winn & Co is a team of experienced makeup artists, hair stylists, and airbrush-tan specialists that offer beauty service to any kind of special event. This high-end, versatile team of artists is led by Jordan K. Winn who received her artistry license from Von Lee International School of Aesthetics. Beginning her career at ULTA and then moving onto training with MAC Cosmetics, Ms. Winn continued her education in the beauty industry receiving training from TemptuPro, MAC, KISS, NARS, Calvin Klein, and SouthSeasSkincare cosmetics. Recruited and mentored by accomplished makeup artist, Danessa Myricks, she also had the opportunity to work in the International Cosmoprof expo in Italy. Ms. Winn’s passion for perfecting her craft has kept her always striving to further her education, ensuring she stays in trend with the current style and beauty technology of today’s ever-changing, fast-paced beauty industry. JKW&Co is now 5 years old and we are loving every minute!
Geomyra: What makes you the best of the best?
Jordan: We take time out to hear, get to know, and understand the bride to ensure the look we are giving her for her big day is reflective of her natural beauty and make her the celebrity version of her! Our scheduling and timing is very particular to ensure we have enough time to get everyone gorgeous but also not be up at the crack of dawn to start.
Geomyra: How do you exceed your clients’ expectations?
Jordan: We learn what we are best at and take the time to match our clients with the best stylist. We give our brides a little “personality/style quiz” to help match. Additionally, we use our contracting and collection process to make our interaction the least stressful. Brides always tell us how easy we were to work with, love that our online booking and contracting system is so easy to use, and we put their fear at ease with our professionalism.
Geomyra: What excites you most about the work that you do?
Jordan: The trust that brides instill in us to help them look the best and the prettiest/hottest/cutest/etc they have ever looked for the love of their life and for all the pictures that will hang on their wall forever, WE TAKE THAT SO SERIOUS! It shows in our work and client relationships.
Geomyra: What awards or accolades you are most proud of?
Jordan: Bride Choice (weddingwire) 5 years straight, Best Make-Up Artist 2014 in Frederick MD, but we are most proud of our 200+ 5 Star Reviews on WeddingWire.
Geomyra: What has been a highlight or milestone in your career?
Jordan: Completing 175 weddings in one year 🙂
Geomyra: What should couples look for in their wedding day hair stylist and/or makeup artist?
Jordan: Certifications and training with larger brands like MAC, Temptu Pro, NARS, etc. Make sure the contact person is well versed in wedding events and can help with time scheduling. Respect the timing, even though it seems long, give the stylists the requested time to get everyone ready. Lastly, do a trial! So important to nail down your look and meet your stylist/artist to ensure you love love love them and they style. They will be with you for 3-6 hours before your big day, they should feel like one of your girls.
Geomyra: What products/brands do you use? Or what trends are you noticing?
Jordan: Right now, we are obsessed with Becca, NARS, and always love our Temptu Airbrush. We are noticing flawless skin and soft eyes, but a pop of lip color is starting to catch on a little more. Highlight and natural contouring is requested frequently. We are noticing really boho loose beauty inspired hair – up-dos that are very look, soft long waves with braids, and messy (good messy) fishtail braids. Hair adornments are back in full effect and we are noticing lots of vine like headbands.
Geomyra: What advice do you have for couples planning their big day? Or advice for couples researching a hair stylist and/or makeup artist?
Jordan: Prioritize what important about spending your money on and then go down the list of vendors. Hair and makeup services are extremely important if you are all about your pictures. So your photographer will ask you to get professional hair and makeup, with that being said – team of hair and makeup stylists with years of experience with long lasting, wedding quality, and loads of professionalism are not going to be on the lower cost end. It will be a good chunk of your pre-wedding pampering budget, but when you look back at your pictures – you will be happy 🙂
Geomyra: Anything else you would like to add?
Jordan: Go airbrush foundation, stays all day and through all the tears and dancing too!
Thanks so much for sharing with us Jordan! If you are looking for a makeup artist, be sure to check out Jordan and her team!
