Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure Global Race Recap
Happy Monday Friends! I hope you were able to spend your weekend celebrating your mother and all the women who have influenced your lives. On Saturday I had the privilege of celebrating my mother, Myra “Tiki” Moore by participating in the Susan G Komen Race For The Cure Global Race. The 5K race was held in Washington DC and drew numerous teams and participants. Our team “Tiki’s Crew” came out yet again to walk in my mommy’s honor. Since losing my mother in 2010 to breast cancer, I have constantly tried to find was to honor her legacy. Last year my brother suggested that we create a team and walk in my mother’s memory. When we created the team, our goal was to raise awareness to breast cancer. Personally, the race is bittersweet for me. It’s so good to see the breast cancer survivors walking in their pink shirts and waving their flags. However on the other end, it’s heart breaking to see so many family members walking in honor of a lost loved one. I’ve come to terms that breast cancer was not put in my life by accident. A few years after my mom’s death, I am now making it my mission to raise awareness so that we may one day find a cure for not just breast cancer, but ALL cancers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of my family and friends for your support, participation and donations. I look forward to participating in next year’s race and hope that you will join me in the fight!
