GLWE’s Gift Guide: Mother’s Day 2013

May 3

With Mother’s Day a week away, it’s time to start thinking about what to get mom! Although we can never repay our mothers for their unconditional love, it is always a blessing to treat them to something nice whenever possible. Check out a few of my favorite gift ideas for your mom, grandma and any special lady in your life!

1. Judith Jack Amore Bib NecklaceBib necklaces are all the rage right now. This simple and classic design is great for all ages.

2. Estee Lauder Lifting/Firming Complete Gift Set I swear by the Estee Lauder skin care collection. With skin care sets tailored to mom’s specific needs, there is something for everyone!

3. iPad MiniI am absolutely in love with the iPad Mini that my hubby surprised me with on my birthday. For moms that love to read, play games, view photos or search the web, the iPad is a sure winner!

4. Oofos Ooahh Slide: In preparation for the Susan G. Komen 5K walk, I recently visited The Running Store. While there I was introduced to Oofos. As a sufferer of plantar fisicities, Oofos provided instant relive to my achy feet. These shoes are great for walking around the house on hardwood floors, something that I am prone to do.

5. Custom Cutting BoardHow cool are these custom cutting boards? With multiple vendors on Etsy, finding the right board for mom is a no brainer.

6. Hermes Silk Vintage Scarf: With plenty of color options and many ways to wear, a Hermes scarf is a great versatile gift idea!

7. Halogen Cassie Small Wristlet: Every woman needs a cute and practical phone case. A wristlet is the perfect choice to hold moms necessities.

8. Massage Envy Membership: A massage one a year is nice. But a massage once a month is even better! Treat mom to a massage a month with a Massage Envy membership!

Tell us, what are you getting your mom for Mother’s Day?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

My 2012 Holiday Season Recap

January 4

I still can’t believe it is January! Seriously, where did the time go? It seems like it was just yesterday that I was working on the GLWE Holiday Gift and Baking Guide. I can honestly say that I had a very blessed and relaxing holiday season spent with my family and friends. From Thanksgiving to New Years, each day was filled with love and warmth. Here’s a recap of what I’ve been up to over the past few months.

Thanksgiving was our second time hosting our family and friends for Thanksgiving dinner. My mother-in-law and I finalized the menu and assigned different dishes to each person attending. It is truly a group effort that seems to work for my family. The highlight of Thanksgiving was watching the Redskins game and learning how to play Catchphrase (a new family favorite).

Thanksgiving 2012

My niece, daughter, husband and I headed over to Cox farms to pick out the perfect Christmas tree. We roasted s’mores and the girls enjoyed the numerous activities located on the farm. The holiday season also allowed me to partake in two of my favorite pastimes, shopping and baking!

I'm so in love with my Fearless Threads Redskins apron! I gifted a few pound cakes and cinnamon roasted almonds!

Headed out to do some Christmas shopping

With November behind us, it was time to get ready to celebrate  the birth of Christ beginning with Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve is always special for me as my grandmother and I attend Christmas Eve mass every year, just the two of us. It has become our new tradition. After service, my husband, daughter and I head over to my dear friend Catherine’s Christmas Eve Open House. It is always a treat to catch up with old high school friends.

Christmas morning Payton was so excited to see what Santa brought. She asked Santa for books and he delivered! It warmed my heart to see her face light up when she discovered a new book under each wrapping. After Phil and Payton made Christmas breakfast, we loaded up the car and headed to my grandmother’s house. Another highlight this holiday season was watching my grandmother open the gifts we had selected for her. Santa brought her a new wardrobe and Payton gave her a basket of a few of her favorite things.

Christmas dinner was extra special as my siblings joined me and my in-laws for a delicious and nontraditional Christmas dinner. I have a huge place in my heart for my in-laws as they have always treated me like a daughter and have been a blessing to my family. Catchphrase was played once again with my team unfortunately losing. (We’ll get’em next time). The house was filled with laughter, love and full tummies once it was all said and done.

On Christmas we made the decision to throw a Redskins/Cowboys party. I am a die-hard Skins fan and despise the Cowboys. My family and friends gathered in our basement and we enjoyed the sweet victory of the Skins embarrassing the Cowboys. So.Much.Fun!

Getting ready for the big game!

On Monday, Phil and I continued our tradition and dined at Flemings on New Year’s Eve. Flemings is our go-to restaurant for special occasions. After our early dinner, we returned home to spend the evening with our little one. Together the three of us rang in the New Year, what a blessing.

In 2012, He challenged me personally and professionally. As a result of the various incidents, encounters, conversations, relationships, blessings, etc., I know that I am growing; a work in progress. I have set solid goals for 2013. I am excited to see what is ahead for my precious family and growing business. I feel truly blessed to do the work that I love and look forward to an amazing year!

My word for 2013 is EXECUTE!

There’re BIG things ahead for this girl. Just wait and see!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Engage!12 Recap Day 2: {Images + Video}

December 19

After an amazing first day of Opening Sessions, I was super anxious to start Day 2. The amazing Breakers staff greeted the attendees with a fresh and eclectic breakfast.

Me and my friend Cyn Kain

Cindy Novotny, Paige Chenault (the birthday party project) and Sylvia Weinstock

As soon as the doors opened to the ballroom I was excited to start the day. Our day was packed with the best of the best in the industry. Cindy Novotny kicked off the sessions and was the moderator for the remaining sessions. Here are a few of my favorite takeaways from Day 2’s speakers:

1. Cindy Novotny: Relationships Matter. Be different! Improve the client experience.

2. Liene Stevens of Think Splendid: It’s a big difference from being a critical thinker and having a critical spirit. I was fortunate enough to be sketched by the very talented Kristy Rice for Liene’s presentation. (Image below)

3. Sylvia Weinstock: You have to be proud of every product. You’re only as good as your team. MAKE EVERYDAY COUNT!

4. Darcy Miller of Martha Stewart Weddings: Details make it special!

5. Mindy Weiss: Less is more right now. If you marry a man or woman who understands our lifestyle, do whatever it takes to hold onto them.

6. Lara Casey of Southern Weddings Magazine (and the woman behind my gorgeous new brand!): Know your story. Identify your core. Do more of what fires you up and see how it affects your work. Take risks for what matters. I want a marriage more beautiful than my wedding.

7. Colin Cowie: Love never goes out of style.

That's me in the orange shirt, top row middle.

We enjoyed a lunch at the Seaside restaurant overlooking the ocean. I had the pleasure of dining with celebrity photographer  Kevin Weinstein who photographed Mario Lopez’s wedding. I also spent some time getting to know Stephanie Snow who works with Ellen Black of Lehr & Black.

By far the highlight of my trip was having the privilege of dining with Mindy Weiss and a host of other Engage!12 attendees. Victoria Angela took this photo of Mindy and I at the conclusion of our intimate and eye opening dinner.

Me with Mindy Weiss, who I absolutely adore!

After dinner we headed back to the Breakers for a dessert party. The courtyard of the Breakers was turned into a winter wonderland complete with ice sculptured penguins and snow!

My Weekend Snapshot: Pumpkinville & New Traditions

October 17

Now that our 2012 wedding season has come to a close, I have the pleasure of spending my weekends with my daughter, Payton. We recently started taking a Parent-Tot gymnastics class. After our Saturday morning class, we picked up our favorite smoothies and stopped by to see my husband, hard at work.

After a quick nap, my cousin, friend and I decided to take the kids to the pumpkin patch. After doing some research, I discovered Pumpkinville at Leesburg Animal Park. After a gorgeous thirty minute drive down route 15, we arrived at our destination.

We spent about two hours playing with the farm animals, drinking cider, enjoying the area’s best apples and watching the kids have a ball on the various activities Pumpkiville had to offer.

The highlight of my day was returning home to hear Payton tell her dad that she had so much fun at the pumpkin patch with her cousins. I am excited to start new family traditions and take advantage of all of the wonderful and inexpensive activities the DC area has to offer. After a long day, I spent the evening enjoying a glass of cider and baking mini pies with the apples that we picked at the park. (Recipe coming soon!)

Feeling grateful for family and sweet memories. Happy Fall!

Happy Independence Day!
